Some people just want an affordable, simple and light piece of antivirus software that will take care of their basic antimalware needs. Max Secure Anti Virus Plus definitely falls into this category, but we were not so excited about some other aspects of their software performance.
Like always, as part of our Max Secure Anti Virus Plus review, we tried to find out as much as we could about the company behind the product. As you might expect, the company is called Max Secure, just like the software, and it is based in India.
It is a relatively old company, founded in 2002 and going strong all these years thanks to some very affordable antivirus solutions. The company is still headed by the same husband-and-wife duo of Sanjay and Rachna Pradhan.
We couldn’t find a BBB page for the company nor could we identify any kind of legal representation in the U.S. To be perfectly honest, we are not crazy about this noticeable lack of info on Max Secure.
Package Information And Features
Max Secure Anti Virus Plus is a very focused product that is geared exclusively towards detecting and removing viruses, spyware and other types of malware from your device. The manufacturer advertises a “state-of-the-art research lab” and a team of experts who identify new threats. Regular updates are another key feature, constantly updating the malware signature database in order to prevent new types of malware from infecting your device.
In addition to this, Max Secure Anti Virus Plus provides certain advanced features such as blocking ActiveX and tracking cookies. The best thing is that this is totally automated. This basic package also protects your privacy while you browse.
Max Secure Anti Virus Plus also offers three scan modes – Quick Scan, Full Scan, and Custom Scan. No matter which of these you choose, you will find out that the scans are among the quickest in the industry. Of course, you can also schedule regular scans during periods when you will not be using your device.
Max Secure also offers more comprehensive solutions such as the Max Secure Internet Security or Max Total Security, which offer additional features not covered by Max Secure Anti Virus Plus. In addition to these solutions, Max Secure offers a whole slew of additional products, such as Disk Tuner, Max File Shredder and Max Folder Secure, just to name a few. They also have Max Anti Virus for Mac which is pretty much the same as Max Secure Anti Virus Plus, only for Macs.
Reliability And Performance
One of the biggest things that made us weary about Max Secure is that their antivirus software was not subjected to the independent AV tests that most other top solutions are regularly subjected to. The biggest issue here is how consistently successful Max Secure Anti Virus Plus is at blocking and detecting malware over time.
However, the few independent tests that were done on the software revealed less than perfect anti-malware scanning capabilities. Namely, Max Secure Anti Virus Plus was unable to recognize and block certain malicious files.
During our Max Secure Anti Virus Plus review, we didn’t notice the software slowing down the system and this is where the people from Max Secure really delivered what they promised – a super light solution. That being said, while our experience was a positive one, we have also heard reports of people whose devices crashed because of this antivirus software.
Max Secure Anti Virus Plus offers some basic privacy protection, although if privacy is your main concern, you might want to think about some of their more comprehensive solutions such as Max Total Security or Max Secure Internet Security. These packages offer much more effective privacy protection. Simply put, Max Secure Anti Virus Plus is too narrowly focused and doesn’t offer much with respect to privacy protection.
Installation And Ease Of Use
Installing this antivirus software was very fast and it went without a hitch during our Max Secure Anti Virus Plus review. Max Secure Anti Virus Plus is easy to use for the most part. To some users, it may seem a bit outdated and they might notice that there are some unnecessary steps before they can find the option they need. Also, Max Secure Anti Virus Plus sometimes uses some outdated terminology that can complicate things for certain less experienced users.
We also didn’t really like the fact that the scan results cannot be custom-sorted. As a result of this, you have to do quite a bit of scrolling to find all the results.
The minimum system requirements for running Max Secure Anti Virus Plus are a Pentium class processor, 500MB of memory and 1GB of storage space.
One of the first things we noticed during our Max Secure Anti Virus Plus review was the simple, perhaps even outdated-looking interface. After a while, however, we realized that the red and white palette and an overall simplicity is actually a plus.
When you open Max Secure Anti Virus Plus for the first time, you get four options – Scan Now, Tools, Live Update and Support. Beneath, you can also find the Max Shield button, as well as Settings and Options. From there on, it is smooth sailing as everything is where you would expect it to be.
Once you start tinkering with the options and the settings, you soon realize that the simplicity of the interface is only skin-deep. You can make serious adjustments with the Max Secure Anti Virus Plus interface and while it remains a bit retro-looking, it becomes obvious that this is one versatile piece of software.
The people from Max Secure advertise phone, email and live chat support available 24/7. In reality, however, the support is not exactly stellar. Users are mostly dissatisfied with the customer support they are able to get from Max Secure.
The good news is that Max Secure Anti Virus Plus is an affordable solution that will set you back only $24.99 for a year of service for one device. For $39.99, you can protect up to three devices for a year. Moreover, they offer a 30-Day Money back guarantee which should make this a sure shot.
You can also get a three year subscription to Max Secure Anti Virus Plus for $39.99 for one device and $59.99 for three devices.
